2009 Approved UHA Rules (AMA Required for Membership) - 2010 Rules TBD
- All flying at our club field must be done using 2.4GHz (Spread Spectrum) equipment. Because we share the geographic area with the UVA our charter stipulates that we will only fly 2.4GHz radios at our field. If you have non-2.4GHz aircraft, you can fly them at the UVA flight line by using their frequency board and following their procedures.
- When a new pilot/non club member arrives, the Safety Officer will approach them and discuss frequency and basic safety pointers with them. All club members should consider themselves safety officers for this task. When you see someone new, please approach them. Be friendly and help keep everyone safe.
- All pilots should only be accompanied to the flight line by ONE other person (TWO maximum). This other person, the spotter, should watch for other pilots, walkers, spectators, etc. and warn the pilot of any possible dangers.
- The flight line may only support three flying pilots at once. It can accommodate one more pilot in the far corners when only hovering. Please limit your flying to your area so that the pilot next to you can focus on their helicopter and not yours. NO FLYING BEHIND THE FLIGHT LINE will be permitted; this includes taking off and landing. Carry your heli to the flight line before spooling up.
- The club adheres to the FAA document regarding Model Aircraft (AC 91-57). The document explicitly gives us a 400 foot above ground altitude limit. No flying higher than 400 feet AGL is permitted. Give right of way and respect to full scale aircraft. Also, the document advises us to not fly model aircraft in public areas such as public parks, schools, etc. A little common sense goes a long way in this matter; be safe no matter where you are flying.
- Any flying over a persons head will result in immediate grounding of that flight and a warning. Please respect other people and their right to a safe environment. Use common sense.
- All other pilots currently in the air must land when a crash has happened. This will allow the pilot and others to help pick up any debris and find any missing items in SAFETY.
- When you have spectators or family at the field, please let them know the importance of staying in the pit area and away from the flight line. This policy is for their safety. Don’t leave children unattended at any time while at the field.
- New pilots should have their helicopter looked over before flying for the first time by one of the club “Check-off Pilots”.
- Have Fun; this is a hobby after all!!
