Well after a week of luxury and relaxation on our 7-Day Alaskan Cruise, its back to reality. We had a great time and took lots of pictures. The food was great and the scenery was amazing. It was cloudy and raining about half the time but it was the last few days were pretty nice.

Found a cool overlook above Tooele, UT that overlooks Kennecott, the machines look like toys compared to the huge pit. I also got a few shots of the fall colors through the canyon. I love this time of year.

World of Speed!

I finally made it to the World of Speed this year and it was awesome. I took a few pics but not as many as I wanted to. It was pretty cool to see all of the cars, most of which were built from the ground up. The fastest car we watched was car 217 which hit a top speed of 296 MPH!

Some pics of the moon from my telescope, I tried to get a good capture of the Lunar Eclipse but couldn't quite get the focus right since I was just holding the camera up to the lense. It was cool to watch as the moon passed through the Earth's umbra it had a tint of orange then turned gray. It was a beautiful night for watching the eclipse as well as all the stars, its so quiet and peaceful at 3:30 int he morning :)

Yellowstone Trip

We just got back from our Yellowstone Trip on Sunday,I wish I was back there in the lower 80's temperatures. It was nice and relaxing and good to be away from the cell phone for most of the time. We stayed at Jared's Wild Rose Ranchwhich was a nice place right on Henry's Lake. Here a few pics.

I'm packing things to get ready for a road trip to help my best friend Mr. Bass :) drive to Alabama to the Stren Series Bass tournament. We are going to rotate driving for the 24 hour drive time plus a couple hours for fuel and food. I'm looking forward to getting on the road and seeing some of the country since I've never driven that far east, even though some of it will be boring (ie. Wyoming). I'm mostly excited for Wayne for qualifying for this tournament with a total of $1 million in purse money. Yes thats $1 million in in cash for fishing! Sounds crazy, but I know how hard Wayne has worked to get this far and takes a lot of talent and skill. I'll be taking lots of pics and posting them. I can't wait to get out there and on the water!

Ferrari Enzo Wrecked

Another Enzo has been wrecked. Today was the last day of the Larry Miller Motorsports sponsored Utah Fast Pass This was truly a one of a kind Enzo worth about $1.3 Million. The car was owned by Richard Losee who actually was one of the first to own an Enzo and let Road & Track take it for their first test drive of a production Enzo. When Losee bought it he had the doors removed and had custom doors made to make it a Targa top. His license plate was "MM ENZO", for "Most Miles Enzo" and his intention was to put the most miles on a Ferrarie Enzo. I have seen this car quite a few times, here are a few pics I took. There is also a picture from last year of his house as it was being built in Provo Canyon. I hope he is alright and recovers quickly. I'm sure he isn't feeling that great about wrecking a $1 Million car. Here are a few more articles about it. And another, and another.

Wicked Laser!

I got my new Phoenix 75mW Wicked Laser yesterday and it truly is wicked. Its amazing how well you can see it in full day light. I shot it across the parking lot at work and could see the bright green dot on my car from a couple hundred feet away. Even more amazing is seeing it at night. The site says it can be used for astronomy, you can point it at a star in the sky and you can see the beam so far it truly looks like your pointing it at the star. My camera would not do very well at night but I did take a few pics.I ordered it last week and it only took 4 days, not bad for being shipped from China. I thought it was cool on the Express Mailer they had written that the contents were a "Ballpoint Pen" and the estimated value was "$7". Why do I need a 75mW laser with a range of 30 miles you ask? Well first of all if you have to ask you wouldn't understand, but the most useful thing I got it for is to align wireless antennas at work :) I'm working on a tripod to attach it to that can be fine tuned for alignment. Check out some of the other useful things you can do with it in the video section of their site. It would be cool to have one of those 300mW 125 mile range Spyders, but its a little pricey, not bad though when you think of what lasers used to cost.

Vernon Loop

I made what I am calling the Vernon Loop on Sunday, I am looking forward to going back and doing some hiking. I had plans of just going to Vernon Reservoir for some relaxing fishing. When I got there there were probably 30-40 people there fishing all arounnd the reservoir which is only about 20 acres. I stopped and tried some fly fishing but I was on the wrong side casting into the wind, do I just threw in some power bait for a while. It was pretty windy and I didn't have any bites so after about 20 minutes I headed further up the road and made a loop through Black Rock Canyon. It was a fun drive, I think I will go back next weekend and make some stops to go hiking and place a few geocaches

Here are all my pics from the Gumball 3000 Rally for their stop Salt Lake. They first stopped at the Park Place parking lot next to the Delta Center. After waiting there for about 45 minutes only 4 cars had shown up, then we heard the awesome roar of several sports cars revving their engines as they circled trhough the parking lot and said "Meet us at the track". They were headed to Miller Motor Sports Track in Tooele. Of course I hurriedly jumped into the Jeep and followed them out of the parking lot. It was crazy as we headed out to the freeway and headed west on I-80. Amazingly the cops weren't waiting for everyone, it was so hard to watch Ferraris and Lambos pass me as I'm pushing the Jeep to its 85-90 MPH limit, not even having a chance at keeping up. I managed to follow and Aston Martin most of the way since he was going the speed limit. As I come up on the turn off to the track a racer in an orange Porsche came into the turn too and slid off the road into a fence almost taking out a guy on the corner taking pictures. Crazy! As we pulled into the race track parking lot it was an amzing feeling looking all around me and seeing every car I've ever dreamed of in my rear view and to all sides of me. Obviously the security and staff at the race track did not have a clue what they were getting into as 130 sports cars are revving their engines waiting for them to let them through the gates as people start jumping out of their cars to take pictures. I finally pulled out of the line of cars and parked to the side and walked to the gate. They were making everyone sign a "waiver" before we could get in, ridiculous. As I ran across te parking lot inside the gates all of the drivers started pulling onto the track and lining up to make a lap, they wouldn't let us up on the top so you cvouldn't really see much as they were on the track. I got a ton of pics after they ran a lap and parked their cars, I will put them into a slide show later, but for now here they are as is. I have some video clips I will be posting as well, one is standing behind that orange Lambo as he revs the engine. There is just something about breathing the exhaust as it rips through the tail pipes of a 500hp motor that gives me goose bumps, gets the blood pumping. As I followed some of the cars out to the salt flats and I then drove back into Salt Lake I couldn't keep the speedometer below 80. In fact, the last three days' commutes to and from work have pushed the limits of the awesome 3 cyl. Geo, maybe by Friday I will be able to go the speed limit again. :)

The Best Christmas Lights Ever...

This has got to be the best Christmas light show ever. The first clip is to a musical score from Trans-Siberian Orchestra's "Wizards in Winter" from The Lost Christmas Eve album. The display is the work of Carson Williams of Mason, Ohio, who used 88 Light-O-Rama channels to control his 16,000 Christmas lights." The second clip is a musical score from Barbra Streisand's "Jingle Bells". This is from his house last year. These are REAL lights - not animated. The lights are ran from a computer program and it is impressive the time and effort he has put into them to make them work. He only runs it from 6p-10p and the sound is very low outside. He broadcasts over FM with a low power transmmitter so you listen in your car on the radio, which is what you are hearing on the clips. Wow!! If you have the time and money, here are some instructions to do your own.

Its been great to see all of the rain the past few weeks, after years of drought, but I think I'm ready for some good weather. Took a few pictures Wednesday morning, you would never know this was a desert in May.

Guns, Guns, & More Guns

Went shooting with a couple friends this weekend. Got to shoot a fully auto .223, the G36C the military replacement for the AR-15. Also got to shoot a MP5, fully auto 9mm. Pretty cool. The percussion on the G36 was amazing for such a small round, I could not imagine shootng this in an enclosed combat situation. One nice thing about the G36 is its ambidextrous safety/semi-auto/auto selector. After shooting fully auto its not hard to see how a battle situation can become just crazy with several people blasting off hundreds of rounds in seconds. The other thing thats crazy is how I started aiming low and by the time I went through 30 rounds in a few seconds I was shooting 10 feet higher than when I started from the percussion 'walking" the barrel upward. After shooting fully auto the Glock 40 seemed so primitive. Thanks to Peter in the video for letting us waste so much ammo in so little time :) He is on the Utah County SWAT.
